Chili tofu is an enticing Indo-Chinese creation that combines deep-fried cubes of tofu with a tantalizing array of vegetables or bell peppers, all enveloped in a spicy and savory sauce. The bold and flavorful sauce is a fusion of chili paste, soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, and other seasonings, serving to perfectly coat the crispy tofu and vegetables.

Garnished with sliced scallions and coriander, this dish is best enjoyed piping hot alongside steamed rice. Recipe: Yields for 3 persons

Ingredients:

 Tofu 1 block (cut into smal cubes)

Vegetable oil 2 tbsp

Red bell pepper 1 diced

Green bell pepper 1 diced

Onion 1 diced

Garlic 3 cloves chopped finely

Ginger 1 "inch chopped finely/in julienne

Green chillies 3-4 finely chopped. (according to your spice level)

Soy sauce 2 tbsp

Vinegar 2 tbsp

Red Chilli paste 2tbsp ( I used store bought. Not sweet chilli sauce)

Brown Sugar 1/2 tsp

Salt to taste

Pepper powder 1 tsp( Coarse)

Spring onion  (green part for garnishing)

 

Method:
In a pan, stir fry tofu cubes until light brown. Take it out and keep them aside.
In the pan, add onions and garlic. Stir fry until the onions are translucent. Then add ginger juliennes.
Add the bell peppers both red and green and continue stir-frying. 

Depending on your spice level, add the green chilies.
In a small bowl, add vinegar, soy sauce, and sugar. Mix well. Add on the top of stir-fried veggies.
Add salt to taste. Caution:: Soy sauce and chili sauce may contain salt so add salt carefully.
Now add the tofu cubes and stir for 2 mins.
Add the chili sauce, mix together, leave them in the pan for 2-3 mins.

Finally, add the green shallots of spring onion, giving a good mix. Remove the pan from the stove.
Yummy Tofu Chili is ready to serve. Serve hot.
