Maladoo (Indian Sweet)
Maa-ladoo or Maladdoo is a traditional Indian sweet that is made from roasted gram flour, ghee, and sugar. The sweet is popular throughout India and is often served during festivals and special occasions. It is rich in protein and tastes great. The recipe is very simple and easy to make.
This recipe has a simple flavour profile but it is utterly delicious and it will melt in your mouth.
The roasted gram is ground into a fine powder, forming the base of the ladoo. Powdered sugar and cardamom powder are mixed into the gram powder. Warm ghee is added to the mixture. The ghee must be hot enough to melt the sugar slightly but not so hot that it burns the mixture. The mixture is then shaped into small, round balls by hand while still warm. The warmth helps in binding the ingredients together firmly.
The predominant flavor is sweet with a hint of cardamom, making it aromatic and delicious. They are typically small, round balls that are pale yellow, sometimes speckled with tiny pieces of nuts if included. They have a good shelf life and can be stored in an airtight container for several days.
