An interesting international cuisine which has a different layers of flavors which you will love to include in your weekly menu plan.

Dan Dan noodles is an international cuisine, originated in China, specially in Sichuan region. The dish is made of a creamy and spicy peanut sauce that went viral all over the internet. This recipe is completely vegetarian and can also be made vegan.

Dan Dan Vegetarian Noodles is an international cuisine, are known for their complex flavors, combining spiciness from chili oil, richness from sesame paste, and tanginess from vinegar. The dish strikes a balance between savory, umami, and slightly sweet notes, creating a delightful international culinary experience. Dan Dan noodles has gained popularity both domestically and internationally for its rich taste and unique combination of flavors.

The dish typically consists of the following components:

Noodles: Traditional Dan Dan Noodles are made using fresh, thin, and chewy wheat noodles, though you can use other types of noodles as well. You can  use readymade noodles as well.

Spicy sauce: The defining element of Dan Dan Noodles is the spicy sauce that coats the noodles. The sauce is made from a blend of Sichuan peppercorns, chili oil, chili paste, garlic, soy sauce, vinegar, and sometimes peanut butter or sesame paste. The result is a complex, fiery, and numbing flavor.

The  unique Sichuan peppercorns play a crucial role in the dish. They provide the dish, which has a numbing effect on the tongue. The  sensation comes from the spiciness of the chili peppers.

 Dan Dan Noodles are often garnished with sliced scallions, chopped peanuts, shallow fried tofu to add the extra flavors to this international cuisine.


 
 

Ingredients:

Thick Chinese wheat noodles 60-70g 

Peanut butter 2 heaped tbsp

Soy sauce 2 tsp

Brown sugar 2 tsp 

Minced garlic 1 tbsp

Grated ginger 1 tbsp

Scallions, chopped 2-3 tbsp

Sesame oil 2 tbsp

Chili oil crisp, according to spice level (2 tsp)

Vinegar 1 tsp

Tofu (optional) 20-30g chopped into bitesize pieces

Hot water 5tbsp

Method: 

In a small pan, heat the sesame oil until it starts smoking, then add your scallions, ginger, and garlic. While the oil is heating up, add the peanut butter, soy sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, and chili oil (make sure to find a vegetarian one) and combine well. 

Add the fragrant oil to the peanut butter mixture and mix. Add hot water to loosen the sauce and make it creamy. In a pan, boil the noodles according to package instructions or until they are al dente.

 Wash the noodles with cold water to prevent them from sticking and add it to the bowl with the peanut sauce. Mix the noodles with the sauce.


In a saucepan, add sesame oil and tofu, ginger, and garlic. Then add soy sauce, brown sugar, and chili oil. Once the tofu is fried and crispy, add the tofu to the noodles. Garnish the bowl with freshly chopped scallions and crushed peanuts.

Sodium: 800-1200mg (may vary based on the amount of soy sauce and other seasonings)
